Fire-rated glazing

HKL Specialists is an approved fabricator on multiple fire-rated glazing systems – a specialism that has grown significantly in importance since Grenfell and the subsequent changes to how fire performance is specified, evidenced and signed off.

We design and install fire-rated glazing solutions across a range of contexts: compartmentation screens, fire-rated curtain walling, fire doors with glazed panels and structural applications where both performance and aesthetics matter.

As an approved fabricator, we work within the specific requirements set by our approved manufacturers – ensuring that every installation preserves the system’s tested and certified performance, rather than compromising it through non-compliant detailing or substitution.

Where fire-rated glazing is being specified or reviewed as part of a Building Safety Act “Gateway” process, involving HKL early reduces the risk of specification errors that become expensive to resolve once the design is locked.

Safety and quality

Under the Building Safety Act, design responsibility for fire-rated elements is increasingly novated down to specialist subcontractors and we carry up to £10m of Professional Indemnity cover to reflect that responsibility – cover that most of our competitors cannot match.

Our team understands the documentation and sign-off requirements that come with fire-rated glazing installations on higher-risk buildings and we produce the evidence trail that duty holders and building control need as a matter of course.
