About HKL
We are built on a belief that the right way to work and the effective way to work are the same thing. Across hundreds of completed projects and 13 years of operating, that belief has produced a workforce that stays, clients who return and a safety record approaching 500,000 hours on-site without incident.

HKL Specialists was founded in 2013 by Terry Damms, who brought more than twenty-five years of facade and cladding experience to the business from day one.
The name itself reflects the scope: HKL is drawn from the NBS specification coding system – H for rainscreen cladding, K for drywall and ceilings, L for glazing – the sections the company was built to work within.
In 2019, HKL Special Projects was established as a sister division, expanding the business’s capability into smaller-scale facade work, render, roofing, and fire protection. Ryan Damms, a qualified MRICS and MCIOB, joined as Operations Director – bringing a level of professional rigour to procurement, design management and site delivery that underpins everything HKL produces.
Today, both divisions operate from the same base in Common Road, Huthwaite, Sutton-in-Ashfield – sharing the same brand, the same safety systems, and the same ethos.
HKL has completed more than 310 projects across England – from student accommodation and NHS hospitals to secure environments and heritage buildings of national significance. Safety is not a KPI to be managed – it is the baseline from which everything else follows.
Approaching 500,000 hours on site across both divisions without a RIDDOR-reportable incident is not a claim we make lightly and it is not one we take for granted. Every project begins with detailed risk assessments and method statements, supported by a dedicated health and safety advisor who attends every site.
We engage with problems early – getting on site, understanding the issue and finding a workable solution rather than retreating behind contracts. That mentality runs from how we approach an initial enquiry to how we handle variation orders on a live job.

HKL Specialists offers curtain walling, rainscreen cladding, fire-rated glazing, structural framing systems, windows and doors. We work with Tier 1 main contractors, developers, public sector organisations and industrial and commercial building owners.

We offer smaller facade packages, fire protection, liquid-applied roofing, refurbishment and remediation – as well as summer school holiday facade remediation.
